Abundant Fields Farm offers pasture raised poultry! Signing up for a Poultry CSA is a great way to save a bit of money and enjoy fresh, delicious chicken from late spring through early fall.
We raise the Red Ranger and the Freedom Ranger birds which are both a heritage breed that do very well on pasture. They start out in a temperature controlled brooder for the first few weeks, and then they go out on pasture that is pesticide and herbicide free. There they can run around, scratch, forage on bugs and fresh greens and behave as they should and live the life of a chicken! However, they need more than just greens and bugs to be healthy and grow well, so we supplement their diet with a blend of non-GMO grains from Union Mills Feed Store. This ensures they are getting the proper nutrients and diet they need to thrive. They are never given any hormones, antibiotics or unnatural growth enhancers.
The birds are processed at an ODA inspected facility located a couple miles away from the farm. The first birds are scheduled to be available around the middle of May, and the season will run to mid-November, weather permitting. We process once per month, and on the farm pick up will be on the Saturday following processing. A home delivery option is available for a fee**. You can choose to pick up one bird per month or stock the freezer and pick up all of them at once (with proper notice).
Birds will weigh between 3.5 and 4 pounds. They will be available fresh (unfrozen) only for farm pick up on the Saturday or Sunday after processing. All other birds will be frozen.
Heart/livers and feet can be included upon request. (Quantities are typically limited)
** Home delivery is available for an additional fee of $25 and is subject to approval based on delivery location. Delivered birds will be frozen. Customer should be at home to receive delivery or make arrangements for the bird (ie cooler with ice). Delivery will be on Sundays, unless your bird is delivered with another farms CSA. (Abundant Fields Farm delivery day subject to change if needed)
If you would rather not commit to a whole season of birds through the CSA, we do offer individual sales, picked up at the farm. Birds are $25 each and can be picked up fresh (un-frozen) at the farm the Saturday after processing. Frozen birds may be picked up at any other time with proper notification.
